Truth Reconciliation Ecumenical Service at Mother Emanuel Church Charleston, S. C.

Really felt the SPIRIT and saw the LIGHT at this powerful service:

"Christianity has become a faith where fear and love now battle for center stage. History teaches us that horrible things happens when fear wins."
Cleo Scott Brown (co-author of "Witness to The Truth")

Dear Rev., I am disappointed you never answered my call about the Truth/Reconciliation workshop going on at the Marriot. I really felt the Holy Spirit at the Mother Emanuel Church at the Ecumenical Service the other night. I wish you could have been there. These ministers and bishops are introduced with much pomp and circumstance, and they wear the clothes and even robes that suit their exalted positions. And their sermons, especially the Bishop of the United Methodist S. C. congregations and the AME Bishop John Brown delivered very powerful sermons. The Methodist Bishop spoke of Jeremiah and ANSWERING THE CALL. Rev. Brown spoke powerfully of The Good Samaritan comparing the "beaten Man" to African-Americans. And also to LOVE thy neighbor, as THYSELF. He was telling the congregation to love themselves first and NOBODY can take away your LIGHT, which became a chant. Rev. Brown named the "Good Samaritan" as a "refuge" and Jesus was a "refuge" and the importance of all being treated as Human BEINGS!

The band and choir is great, and lots of dancing goes on - I FELT the Holy Spirit there and it was like contagious! So we agree on THE FELT EXPERIENCE OF SPIRIT.

Where you and I disagree, is on the "ego". These men (and a couple of women) have powerful "egos" and they use them in a beautiful VERY INSPIRATIONAL way. And egos or pride is needed to help people in their own feeling of weakness. Egos need to be built up, not torn down. AND YOU ARE NOT A VICTIM OF THE EGO THAT YOU SEE! Yes, being aware of the ego is essential to keep it in balance, so as not to overpower others or on the other hand being overpowered.

with all due respect, Ron Alexander

Fearing the ego is a big part of the problem.
